Mixed Media on Vellum & Cold Pressed Paper
The kraken imagery plays with the notion of some universal world consciousness, propounded by Carl Jung, which suggests that symbolic images may invoke fixed and transcendent meaning. Incidentally, much of my work operates on this premiss. Now, is it important that symbols are universally meaningful? I don't believe so; aesthetically, and intrinsically symbols often inspire wonder and mystery prior to any knowledge of archaic mythology. This first step is rewarding to the viewer, just as a more complex reading of symbols offers fulfillment, a more cursory reactionary response may be just as enjoyable.
